New on Posterous - Autopost to Facebook

Posterous has just launched dead simple posting of photos, video, music, and files of all kinds to Facebook through our Posterous Facebook app.

  1. We'll update your minifeed with a notification. If click "Edit" in Facebook, you can even expand the notification to the full contents of the post. So if you post an mp3 and expand it, you'll get an mp3 player right there in your profile for your friends to listen to, all without ever leaving Facebook.
  2. If you'd like, we can also upload your photos to your Facebook Photo Albums (and automatically create a new album if you post more than 10 photos).
  3. Finally, if you add a Posterous Tab to your profile, you can let your friends view your posterous page directly from your Facebook profile.

All of the usual autopost options apply -- you can still email facebook@posterous.com OR manually post to Facebook through the "Post to elsewhere" button on the sidebar of your post.

So what are you waiting for? Set up autopost to facebook now.

New: More control over autopost

We've been getting a ton of requests for this, so here you go. You can now autopost your Posterous posts to other sites right from the post page itself. Simply click the "Post to elsewhere" button on your post's page, and then click where you want the post sent.

This enables you to post via posterous@posterous.com, so it's not automatically autoposted, check the post online, edit it, get it just right, and then autopost it when you are ready. This also means if you have multiple blogs setup with Posterous, you can choose to post to just one of those.

Finally, when you create a new post on the website itself, there's an option under "More options" that lets you disable autopost for that post.

Posterous launches easy post tagging via email

We're really excited to be releasing one of our most requested features: tagging! You can now categorize the posts on your site by adding tags either through email, or on the post's page itself.

Add tags simply in the subject of your email using the syntax ((tag: apple, gadgets)). Tagging doesn't have to be a tedious task you do after creating a post; simply tag your posts as you create them right in the message.

Not only can you see all posts on a site with a given tag, but you can view all posts throughout Posterous with a tag. It's a great way to see what people are saying about any given topic. Enjoy!

New on Posterous - Daily and Weekly Notification Emails

You've asked for it and we've built it. Posterous now provides daily and weekly digest emails of your favorites, comments, and subscription emails.

In the days and weeks ahead we'll continue to refine the way we get in touch with you. Sneak peek: we'll also be rolling out outbound email subscriptions soon. You won't have to come back to My Subscriptions on the site to read your subscriptions -- we'll come to you.

New: private posts on Posterous!

You can now create private posts on Posterous to share with just a select group of people. Simply email private@posterous.com. We'll reply back with a secret url that you can give to the people who you want to share that post with. You can also make a post private on the post editing screen.

This post won't show up on your public Posterous site, or in your RSS feed. And if you have Autopost set up, private posts will NOT be autoposted to your other sites.

As always, send feedback and questions to help@posterous.com.

Posterous launches the easiest video sharing online

Posterous now supports video! Simply email us your mov, avi, 3gp, or m4v files (or whatever else you have), and we'll convert them into embedded flash players instantly. Sharing video on the web has never been easier. Try it now: email post@posterous.com a video file off your digital camera. That's all there is to it, no account necessary!

A few years ago I organized a poker tournament with about 100 players and thousands of dollars in the pot. Here's the 8 hour event, sped up to just 1 minute.

Get the Flash Playerto see this player.
(download)

We even went back and processed all the videos you've sent us in the past, so check your old posts for the new player.

Also: we added support for many additional audio formats such as wav and m4a. Send those to us to get the Posterous audio player right in your blog.

There are a ton of different video formats out there so if you find one that doesn't play in your post, email us and we'll check it out.

New on Posterous: RSS feeds for your subscriptions

By popular demand, we've added RSS feeds for your subscriptions list. If you don't know what an RSS feed is, read this. So now, when the posterous blogs you subscribe to get updated, you can automatically see new posts in the RSS feed reader of your choice.

We've also added a new way to see more posterous blogs, just by clicking "More recommended blogs".

There are a few more hidden features we'll be refining and talking more about in the next few days. Thanks for using posterous!

Are you in Boston/Cambridge? Come grab a beer with Posterous on Monday, Aug 11

If you happen to be in Boston next Monday, we'd love to meet up with you and just hang out. All startups, entrepreneurs, hackers, and Posterous fans are encouraged to attend!

Posterous is co-sponsoring the event with our friends from Anyvite, Slinkset, and Startuply from the summer batch of Y Combinator startups from this year. Y Combinator has been an incredible opportunity for us to meet and work with some of the smartest minds in the industry and to be a part of an incredible ecosystem of talented cofounders that have included Reddit, Loopt, Scribd, Justin.TV, Xobni, Heroku, Dropbox, 280 North, and a ton of other sites and services we love.

For potential entrepreneurs out there, Y Combinator partners Paul Graham and Jessica Livingston will give a short Q&A session about startups and how to improve your YC application if you're looking to apply.

RSVP and check out the details for the event at the anyvite page:
